Put in Capcom vs SNK 2 and it took me to the memory card menu. I clicked on the "run the PS2 disc" icon as it best-selling the game inside and it yet again, took me back to the retentiveness menu menu. Tried this with 9 other games, and all the same upshot.
Really would like some help as to what I tin can do to resolve this effect?
If it helps, the last game I played, Tales of Legendia, works fine on it, but nada else.

I have a couple discs that simply flat out reject to work anymore on it (despite running on an emulator)

Best to use a fat PS2 and run the games off an internal hard drive instead.
- #five
Yous could also utilize freemcboot to run homebrew and play your games in fill-in form.

The drive is dying (or already expressionless.) Happened to me very long time ago. I went with Fat PS2 + HDD and never looked back.
All these years I was told the Slim was better lol
If it's happening on both DVD and CD-ROM (blue bottom) games then your drive is shot or on its last legs, sorry.All-time to apply a fatty PS2 and run the games off an internal hard drive instead.
Yeah, the drive is dying. Capcom vs. SNK two is a CD game, and so that'due south a good indicator the laser is in it'southward last legs.
Seems like the bulldoze is the issue here unfortunately. Man, this stinks.
is this an old model or the thin 1? if it'southward the fatty ps2, not a joke: try playing with the PS2 upside down
Thin, but I actually decided to try this way out and it worked for like, a one thousand total of 5 to 10 minutes on each of my games earlier it stopped lol. Fifty-fifty in those 5 to 10 minutes in that location were so many audio and loading issues :|

You tin try cleaning the laser with alcohol.
Tried that last nighttime multiple times throughout the day and it didn't work :(

This! It brought new life to my launch model PS2.The drive is dying (or already dead.) Happened to me very long time ago. I went with Fatty PS2 + HDD and never looked back.

I decided to become a Phat Ps2 with a big difficult drive and ripped all my games over to it using a pc (Much faster)
Benefit to that too is that your ps2 is basically region free.
You can try tweaking your laser. Information technology's relatively easy to install a new laser, just don't go for the absolute cheapest on ebay or you're probable to become a dud. also if you do install a new laser try testing it out with cd's or games you lot don't care nearly. I've ended up with round scratches on discs afterward a laser replacement before.

Fatty.Hold the phone: You can use an ext HDD for PS2? Is this without mods? Is information technology possible for the Slim or Phat model only?
The console on the back is where the broadband adapter goes and so a 3.five" hdd plugs into that.
It's how you lot installed ffxi and played online

In that location'south a port in the back of the fat model. Y'all need an adapter/add on though IIRC.

Officially? AFAIK it was only used for some downloadable SOCOM ii maps and FFXI.Also what does an HDD do for a PS2?
Unofficially you tin can rip PS2 games to a hard bulldoze and load them using homebrew software.
It's been forever since I did this. I'm sure you could detect a guide online easily.
I practice call up the process wasn't difficult at all. The hardest part would probably be finding a iii.5" IDE HDD. I don't know if the ethernet adapters are difficult to find these days, but I practice have a spare I'd be willing to sell if anyone is interested.

they make sata adapters nowOfficially? AFAIK it was only used for some downloadable SOCOM two maps and FFXI.Unofficially you tin can rip PS2 games to a hard bulldoze and load them using homebrew software.

Only real issue with that (aside the usual ymmv that tin come with some aftermarket peripherals) is you don't accept any internet connectivity because the Ethernet port on the dorsum is fake.they brand sata adapters at present
You tin can apply an IDE to SATA converter similar this and an IDE extension cable to connect a 2.5" SATA drive to the official network adapter as well.

Custom firmware leads to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.Concord the telephone: You tin utilise an ext HDD for PS2? Is this without mods? Is it possible for the Slim or Phat model but?
- #41
I should have guessed there was some creative soul out at that place who came up with an ext. HDD solution.Custom firmware leads to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.
That might be the style to go. Only result being, I take a PS2 Slim. But existent upshot with that (aside the usual ymmv that can come with some aftermarket peripherals) is y'all don't take any cyberspace connectivity because the Ethernet port on the back is fake. You can use an IDE to SATA converter similar this and an IDE extension cable to connect a 2.5" SATA bulldoze to the official network adapter too.

Very mutual. I don't know about the slim though, just with the fat, information technology was an inevitable failureIsn't dead drives a common trouble with older PlayStation consoles? That'south probably what you are getting.
- #43
There is an external HDD solution, but the result is that it is incredibly slow, considering the PS2 has USB one.0. If y'all wanted to stick with the slim, you could set it up to play games over a network, where y'all accept your disc images stored on a PC and have your PS2 continued via Ethernet, but that also has it's drawbacks and compatibility issues (some games have stuttering, for case).I should take guessed there was some creative soul out there who came upwards with an ext. HDD solution. That might be the way to go. Only issue being, I take a PS2 Slim.
A fatty PS2 with an internal HDD is definitely the mode to go though. Information technology's got the highest compatibility of all those methods, and volition load games the fastest. When my slim died last year I picked up a used fat for about $50, so information technology'southward not that pricey to at least go the organization, just you'll likely spend nigh $100 on the other materiels (HDD, adapters, hacked retention card, etc) to get it gear up. It's definitely worth it though.
